Men’s Morning Prayer 9.24.08
This morning Deacon and Elder Candidate Mark Bergin took us through a devotion out of some convictions he had while attending the Shepherdin a Child’s Heart conference this past weekend taught by Dr. Tedd Tripp.
He started by taking us to Ephesians 6:1 – 3
1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.
We then exlored the idea of submission and how in all cases where God calls us to submission it is ulimately for our own good as God promises Children that if they submit to thier parents “it may go well with” them. We all talked about how counter-cultural the idea of submission is to our minds.
Romans 13 details submission to wordly authorities & Hebrews 13 talks to submission to our elders. Both make it clear that it is to our benefit to submit to authority.
Mark challenged us to consider our view of submission in our hearts and to prayerfully consider how we model submission to those around us.
Prayer Requests
After our discussion, Pastor Steve encouraged us to especially be in prayer for fruit from the current Peasant Princess series as many, many people in our congregation face the idols in their hearts surrounding sex & marriage. He asked for prayer for the leadership as well as they prepare to handle the influx of counseling appointments that will undoubtedbly be created by the Holy Spirit bringing to light sin and idolatry that need to be worked through in the hearts of so many of our congregants.
